What To Consider When Choosing Carpet Tiles

Carpet Tiles are a popular floorcovering, particularly for commercial building. When compared with alternatives, carpet tiles offer durability, ease of installation and maintenance, and excellent value for money. Here are some points to bear in mind, to help choose which carpet tiles are best for your building.

Cost

Value for money is often the first consideration when choosing a flooring, especially in a large commercial building, which is under strict budget limitations. Carpet Tiles are often cheaper to buy than wall-to-wall carpets, and are much quicker and easier to install. The price varies depending on the quality and style of Carpet Tile that you need.

Tile Construction

There are three main types of Carpet Tiles; tufted cut pile, tufted loop pile, and needle punch. Tufted cut pile and loop pile are the most popular options, as they are the most durable. They can be manufactured in nylon yarn or polypropylene, to various classifications.

Before choosing the shape, colour and style of the tiles, it is best to decide which classification you need, as this can have a bearing on the other elements. The tiles are given a rating to help determine the suitability of the product for the environment. For a busy shop or office, for example, Class 33 for heavy commercial use will be most suitable.

Bear in mind that in an office where castor chairs (with wheels attached to the legs or central stem) are in continual use, a tile specifically recommended for the purpose should be chosen; an industrial rating alone is not enough. For a domestic environment, a lower rating of Class 31/32 will be sufficient.

Provided you make the right choice of classification for the intended use, and install them correctly, the carpet tiles should last for ten years or more. It's often better to choose a more expensive option over a cheaper alternative, as they will prove more durable in the long term.

Colour and Style

Of course, a floor covering is more than merely functional. If they are for a commercial space, you may want to reflect the company branding, for example. Tiles offer a versatile way to express the individuality of what can otherwise be quite a bland space.

For example, different colours, patterns, and even shapes of tile can be arranged to reflect the brand identity of the business, whether fresh and vibrant, or more conservative. They can even be laid out in a manner to promote the ease of navigation around the building.

Even if you are operating on a limited budget, a pattern can be achieved simply by alternating the direction of the carpet tile, to create a chequered effect. Widely available colours, such as blue and green, can be used to promote a calming effect, which is useful to aid the concentration of students and office workers.

Ease of Maintenance

Most types of Carpet Tile are very easy to care for, and if you choose nylon fibres, they will be excellent at repelling dirt, moisture, and mildew. Should an area of the floor become damaged or soiled, it is very easy to simply replace one or two tiles.
