Cleaning Carpet Tiles - A step by step guide

If you plan on giving your carpet tiles a deep clean yourself, here is the step-by-step process, as recommended by our experts.

A Step-By-Step Guide To Cleaning Carpet Tiles

We often underestimate how much wear our carpet tiles take on a day to day basis.

According to a recent survey, a fifth of people said that their carpet tiles had been stained by either their pets, their children or another outside factor.

Besides, the big obvious stains, dust, dirt and hair collections over time can accumulate and ruin the tile's look, making them look dull and off-shade.

Most of the time, cleaning stains as and when you find them, as well as using a vacuum cleaner to suck up crumbs, dirt and dust will, for the most part, be sufficient in the home. However, for commercial use, it is important to have a regular carpet cleaning schedule, either by professional cleaners or undertaken in-house.

If you plan on giving your carpet tiles a deep clean yourself, here is the step-by-step process, as recommended by our experts.

Step One: Eradicate Dust

For carpet shampoos to be at their most effective, your carpet needs to be thoroughly vacuumed and dusted. Certain carpet cleaning machines both vacuum and wash at the same time, but it is better to vacuum and then use a deep-clean carpet cleaning machine.

Step Two: Test The Solution

Before you apply the shampoo or cleaning solution more liberally, do a spot test in an inconspicuous area to make sure that it will not damage the fibres. Wait for it to dry and then make sure it is ready to use.

Step Three: Spot Clean

Start by pre-treating and spot cleaning any stains that have been left to dry. These can be especially stubborn so the first step is to break down the stain slightly before the cleaning machine does the rest.

Step Four: Apply Shampoo

Using the appropriate concentration and shampoo type for the carpet tiles, slowly use the cleaning machine from the far side of the room to the side closest to the door. This helps you avoid stepping on damp carpet tiles.

The best types of machines for this are deep cleaning machines, which send water to the carpet pile and then suck it back off again removing the soil and dirt.

This can be time-consuming, so be sure to take regular breaks or work with a group.

Please note that it is important to be careful not to over wet the carpet tiles.

Step Five: Rinse And Dry

Once you have gone through the shampoo stage, it is time for the rinsing stage, where carpet cleaning mixture is washed out and absorbed by the water extraction feature of the machine. This ensures that any detergent residue is removed and leads to a stunning effect.

Repeat this and the shampoo step for as long as is needed, and then it is time to leave the carpet to dry.

Open every window and door you can and turn on the central heating to help the drying process. Depending on the type of carpet tiles it can take up to ten hours for it to fully dry.
